Texas A&M (6-0, 3-0 SEC) defeated Florida (2-3, 1-2 SEC) 34-17 on Saturday night, shutting down the Gators in the second half, as the Aggies’ defense put on another elite display, led by senior edge Cashius Howell’s sack and four pressures. Texas A&M remains one of just five undefeated teams in the country, while Ole Miss (6-0, 3-0 SEC) is the only other undefeated team in the SEC.
However, head coach Mike Elko, pleased with how his team has battled through six games, understands that this is just the start of what the Aggies want to accomplish. He knows that the next three road games against Arkansas, LSU, and Missouri will define the season. At the end of the first half, leading 21-14, senior running back Le’Veon Moss left the game with an apparent ankle injury. Although he was reportedly available after the half, he did not return to the game.
Starting quarterback Marcel Reed started hot, producing two early touchdowns before things slowed down in the second half. However, thanks to the defense and a steady dose of run and pass late in the fourth quarter to bleed the clock, the team ended the game with a 17-point victory.
Around the rest of the SEC, Ole Miss escaped Washington State to stay undefeated. At the same time, Alabama, LSU, and Georgia all passed their Week 7 tests, while unranked Texas dominated No. 6 Oklahoma 23-6, keeping the Longhorns alive after losing to Florida last week.
After the win, coupled with Oregon’s home loss to Indiana, Texas A&M moved up one spot to No. 4 in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll heading into Week 8.
