Their trip west did not go as well as their last trip did for the Tennessee Titans, who fell to the Las Vegas Raiders, 20-10, in Week 6 action.
The Titans were never truly in this game as the Raiders took advantage of Cam Ward’s turnovers and eventually wore down the Titans’ defense to seize control. Ward struggled throughout the day, and once again, the Titans’ offense struggled to sustain any momentum.
Tennessee’s defense played well, but could not overcome a lack of offense, and the Titans fell to 1-5 on the season.
Final Score: Raiders 20 – Titans 10

Keys to the Game
- Turnovers: Cam Ward struggled to protect the ball, with three turnovers, and committed two crippling ones that cost the Titans on the scoreboard. His fumble on the two-yard line set up the Raiders for a touchdown, and his interception at the end of the first half killed momentum and cost the Titans at least a field goal attempt.
- Offensive line play: The Titans’ offensive line struggled on Sunday. Dan Moore committed multiple pre-snap penalties, and the line could not do anything to protect Ward or open holes in the run game. This was a disappointment after playing one of their better games against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 5.
- Special Teams: In a game that was evenly matched, the Raiders won the turnover battle and had a significant advantage in return yards, which gave them tremendous field position throughout the game. The Titans have been solid in coverage and with returns, but they couldn’t get anything going against the Raiders.
It was over when…
Cam Ward was intercepted by Devin White at the end of the first half, deep in Las Vegas territory. That turnover not only prevented the Titans from closing the deficit to one score, but it also kept Tennessee off the scoreboard and crushed their momentum heading into halftime.
Players of the Game
- Jeffery Simmons: Simmons was again voted Player of the Game by the Titans Wire staff. He brought the heat once again with six total tackles (four solo) and one sack. Simmons led a stout defensive effort and once again proved to be the best defender on the field.
- Cedric Gray: Gray has quieted all doubters and continues to be one of the standout defenders who continually flies under the radar. He had 12 total tackles (two solo) on Sunday and was all over the field.
- Van Jefferson: Playing most of the game without Calvin Ridley, Jefferson stepped up and had his best game for the Titans, pulling in four balls for 75 yards. While he doesn’t offer the explosiveness of Ridley, he has been a consistent receiving threat for the Titans.
Injuries
The Titans suffered two injuries that had a significant impact on the game. Wide receiver Calvin Ridley left in the second quarter with a hamstring injury and did not return. In the second half, the Titans lost edge Femi Oladejo to a calf injury, and he did not return. Oledejo’s absence left Tennessee short on the edge with only Jihad Ward and Dre’Mont Jones available for most of the second half.
What’s next?
Head coach Brian Callahan will meet with reporters on Monday afternoon to wrap up the week and set the stage for Week 7. Select players will be made available after Callahan.
Tennessee will return to practice on Wednesday ahead of a Week 7 game against the New England Patriots on Sunday, October 19, at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee. Kickoff is 1:00 p.m. CDT.
