Texas A&M football HC achieved historic feat after three consecutive SEC victories

Texas A&M’s 34-17 victory over the Florida Gators marked a historic feat for head coach Mike Elko in just his second season at the helm in Bryan-College Station, Texas.

The Aggies’ 3-0 record in the Southeastern Conference made Elko the first head coach in program history to start league play with three consecutive wins. Texas A&M also achieved its first 6-0 start since former Aggie head coach Kevin Sumlin led the Maroon and White in 2016.

Elko’s squad remains tied at first in the SEC with the Alabama Crimson Tide and Ole Miss Rebels. Since being hired to lead the Aggies on Nov. 26, 2023, he has already accomplished the school’s first eight-win season since 2021 and is eyeing a potential spot in the College Football Playoff for the first time, should Texas A&M continue its upward trajectory against a challenging remaining conference schedule.

The defensive mastermind has created a monstrous defensive unit in 2025, which continues to display improvement each week. In fact, the Aggies’ defensive unit has been so special that it has only allowed two third-down conversions in 33 attempts since the beginning of SEC play against Auburn.

While the defensive success has been the star of the show so far this campaign, Elko hauled in a talented wideout tandem that has created mismatch nightmares for opposing secondaries. Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed has also performed well, including the game-winning touchdown on the road against Notre Dame in Week 3.

If Elko can lead the Aggies through the remainder of a brutal SEC schedule, the sky is the limit for what the head ball coach can accomplish this season in the Maroon and White.
