The Washington Commanders suffered their most humiliating defeat of the 2025 season on Monday, losing to the Chicago Bears 25-24 on a last-second field goal. It wasn’t humiliating because Washington lost, but the Commanders had multiple chances to put the game away and a Jayden Daniels’ mishandled snap with three minutes remaining put the Bears in position to win the game.
After Daniels fumbled, Washington never saw the ball again before kicker Jake Moody’s 38-yard game-winning field goal. Turnovers were the name of the game for the Commanders. Washington turned it over three times, with Chicago scoring off each turnover. The first turnover came on a Daniels’ interception in the red zone, something he never does.
While Daniels played well outside of the turnovers, they proved costly. Additionally, it was another poor effort from Washington’s defense. Heading into this game, the run defense was the best part of the unit. D’Andre Swift ran for 108 yards and also had a 55-yard touchdown catch-and-run, a result of a poor tackle attempt from Washington safety Quan Martin.
In two years with the Bears, Swift has only had two games over 100 yards rushing: both came against the Commanders.
No surprise, Washington social media was not happy. Let’s check out some of the top reactions, via X.
Mike Sainristil
Marshon Lattimore & Trey Amos didn’t have a bad game at all.
It’s very obvious teams are attacking Mike Sainristil week to week.

I’m so done with Mike Sainristil. Either play him in the slot or get him off the field. He got so lucky today too. Penalties wiped off multiple big plays

Quan Martin
Horrible missed tackle on Swift by Quan Martin pic.twitter.com/g6JskSNT6Q

Missed tackles have been a killer early this season for the Commanders’ defense.
Quan Martin has a chance to get Deandre Swift to the ground here. Can’t do it. 55-yard TD changed the game. Looks like Lattimore eases up thinking Martin has him. pic.twitter.com/i4x6wPAzZq

This is the weakest tackle attempt ever 😭😭
Look at Quan Martin trying to tackle Deandre swift😂pic.twitter.com/9m5dhuHcLR

More on the defense
Quan Martin is a terrorist
Frankie Luvu what does he even do
Bobby Wagner has 45 speed
Von Miller is useless

Unfortunately I think it’s time for the @Commanders to do the Joe Whitt Jr tweet.

Joe Whitt should be relieved of his play calling duties #RaiseHailpic.twitter.com/fnWguG3Awi

Jayden Daniels
I think what upsets me the most is the fact that Jayden’s performance is erased because of two plays. There are less than five QB’s in this league that score and move their offense up and down the field with that group of pass catchers tonight. He is one of them.
— Eric Sully (@CommandersRealm) October 14, 2025
Lastly, Jayden has work to do. He has not been as sharpe as I thought he would be in his second year. No one is above criticism. I don’t know if that is a slump but definitely something worth discussing.

Jayden Daniels went from beating the Bears with a last-second miracle to losing to the Bears because of a late slippery mistake.

A 100% unforced fumble at the worst possible time. That’s actually Zorn-level.

That’s a bad way to lose

Also: The defensive issues are a major problem. Not going away.
🏈 Allowed 381 YDS; 6.5 a play
🏈 Gave up chunks of 55, 37, 25, 21
🏈 Zero TKA for 3rd time in 5 games
🏈 145 rushing yds to bad run teamBears had 9 penalties, mostly on offense and still went for nearly 400. pic.twitter.com/ts56uYiaAL

Totally deserved to lose. Nobody played well except McCaffrey on KO returns.

What an awful disgusting loss. Serves Washington right. Chicago did everything possible to give us the game. Brutal loss at home.
— Matthew Berry (@MatthewBerryTMR) October 14, 2025
Turnovers killed the Commanders. But so did their run defense and rushing offense, each of which flopped despite the Bears’ rushing offense and run defense having been so bad. Painful loss. But 3-3 and just a game out of first in the NFC East.
