We are nearing the midway point of October, which is peak football season in South Bend. But basketball is just around the corner.
And Notre Dame women’s basketball star Hannah Hidalgo picked up a huge accolade when she was named by the league’s coaches and media the ACC preseason player of the year on Tuesday.
The two-time AP first-team All-American and last season’s league player of the year is heading into her junior season in South Bend. As a sophomore, Hidalgo averaged 23.8 points per game, which broke her own school scoring record from her freshman season (22.6).
On the men’s side, junior guard Markus Burton was named a preseason first-team all-ACC selection on Tuesday, the first Fighting Irish player to earn such an honor since forward John Mooney in 2019.
