Winter sports are beginning to ramp up, and everyone within Texas A&M basketball’s orbit is eager to see what Coach Bucky McMillan and the revamped roster will bring to Aggieland. Based on everything that’s emerged during the offseason, the product on the court is expected to be a dramatic departure from the scheme of the past six seasons.
Turnover was anticipated, but when Coach Bucky finally got his footing, he had just one player on the roster, Chris McDermott, who had played a total of six collegiate games. Needless to say, there was a tremendous amount of work required just to field a team, let alone implement his signature brand of basketball.
Even so, he managed to recruit a solid and experienced squad that should be competitive from the outset. Everywhere he’s coached, he’s found success relatively quickly, and now he has the opportunity to prove that his system can thrive at the highest level. With expectations low and Aggie fans simply excited to see something new, Coach Bucky will have the freedom to operate as he sees fit while ushering in a cultural shift in Bryan-College Station.
