New England Patriots cornerback Marcus Jones knows he’s in the final year of his rookie deal, but he isn’t concerned with his looming contract uncertainty.
If Jones continues to play well this season, everything will sort itself out for the former third-round draft pick. He has 27 tackles, six pass deflections and one sack so far this season. On special teams, he has 208 total punt return yards, one touchdown and a 23.1 punt return average.
He took one punt return to the house for an 88-yard touchdown against the Carolina Panthers earlier this season. Through six weeks, he has been one of the Patriots’ best players.
“As of right now, I’m just focused on the season,” Jones said on WEEI Afternoons. “That stuff will handle itself out when it comes down to it, but as of right now, I’m just keeping my head down and focusing on the season.”
Jones’ contract situation will certainly be worth monitoring in the coming months.
He’s one of the players the team should be looking to keep in their ongoing rebuild. There will undoubtedly be plenty of outside interest from other teams if he’s allowed to hit the open market in 2026.
