Tennessee Titans waive kicker Matthew Wright with Joey Slye expected to return vs Patriots

The Tennessee Titans have waived kicker Matthew Wright, opening the way for Joey Slye to return on Oct. 19 against the New England Patriots.

Wright played in the Titans‘ 20-10 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Oct. 12, making a 46-yard field goal in the third quarter. He added an extra point after David Martin-Robinson’s touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Slye had been the starting kicker for the first five weeks of the season, before suffering an injury against the Arizona Cardinals on Oct. 5. He has made 13-of-17 field goals this season.

This was Wright’s second stint with Tennessee. Previously he appeared in two games for the Titans in 2024, going 4-for-4 while replacing an injured Nick Folk. He has kicked field goals for six different NFL teams, including Pittsburgh, Kansas City, Jacksonville, Tennessee, Carolina, and San Francisco.

Slye’s first game back from injury will also be the team’s first under interim coach Mike McCoy. The Titans fired coach Brian Callahan on Oct. 13.

The Titans host the Patriots on Oct. 19 (noon CT, CBS), a matchup which will feature McCoy up against former Titans coach Mike Vrabel.
