Tony Vitello decision to Giants 'expected to come in next 24 to 72 hours'

Tennessee baseball head coach Tony Vitello is a candidate for San Francisco’s open manager position in MLB.

On Saturday, Jeff Passan of ESPN provided an update regarding Vitello and the Giants.

“The decision on whether Tennessee coach Tony Vitello will be the next manager of the San Francisco Giants is expected to come in the next 24 to 72 hours, sources tell me and Pete Thamel,” Passan announced on social media.”

He also provided more information about a potential deal with the Giants.

“Should a deal between Vitello and the Giants come together, he would be the first manager in MLB history hired directly from the college ranks with no professional baseball experience,” Passan said on social media. “The buyout on Vitello’s contract at Tennessee is $3 million, according to sources.”

Vitello has compiled a 341–131 (125–85 SEC) record since 2018 at Tennessee, winning one national championship, two SEC regular season championships and two SEC Tournament titles.
