Sunday’s 13-6 triumph over the New York Jets wasn’t exactly a well-rounded win for the Carolina Panthers. But it was their third straight, their first on the road in 2025 and the one that put them over .500 for the first time in four years.
So, yeah, it’s still certainly good enough—and they wouldn’t have gotten there without a handful of standout performances.
Here are our studs (and duds) from the Week 7 victory . . .
Stud: DL Derrick Brown
Brown headlined the defense, which headlined the win. The Pro Bowl wrecking ball dominated the trenches, tallying 2.0 sacks, three quarterback hits and three batted balls.
He also tied for a team-high seven tackles.
Stud: CB Jaycee Horn
Horn, Carolina’s other defensive star, also showed up in a big way. The Pro Bowl cover man notched two interceptions—a one-hander late in the third quarter and a more conventional two-hander late in the fourth.
Stud: OLB Nic Scourton
Scourton got himself into the sack column for the first time in his NFL career with 1.5 takedowns. He ended with three quarterback hits.
Fellow 2025 draft pick and rookie outside linebacker Princely Umanmielen also recorded half a sack.
Dud: Pass protection
The Panthers offense fielded their sixth different starting alignment in trenches, and it showed.
Quarterback Bryce Young was pressured far too often, so props to him for finishing with a decent stat line of 138 passing yards and a touchdown through three quarters. Young, however, couldn’t come out completely clean—as he left the game early with an ankle injury off a sack.
Stud: RB Rico Dowdle
Dowdle didn’t suffer from the offensive line shuffle, as he rushed for a game-high 79 yards on 17 carries.
Dud: RB Chuba Hubbard
Hubbard might’ve been a tad rusty in his first game back from a calf strain. He ran for just 31 yards on 14 totes.
Stud: WR Xavier Legette
Legette came up clutch, posting a career-high 92 receiving yards and a touchdown over nine grabs. His 33-yard catch at the 1:20 mark of the fourth quarter iced the win.
Dud: WR Tetairoa McMillan
McMillan was pretty quiet, with just three receptions for 33 yards. He’s totaled 64 receiving yards in the last two weeks after averaging 70.2 yards per game in Weeks 1 through 5.
