Oct. 19—A final regular-season road trip went swimmingly for the Glacier girls soccer squad, who defeated Helena High Thursday and Butte Friday, both by shutout.
Gracie Winkler scored twice in the 4-0 win over Helena and added two more goals in a 10-0 win over Butte; Avi Schmautz had one goal against Helena and two more on Butte.

On Thursday Bailey Dahlman gave the Wolfpack all the goals they needed just before halftime, one-timing a pass from Emma Allen.
“We came out firing on all cylinders,” said Glacier coach Doug Mello, whose club peppered the goal with 19 shots. “There was a really terrible wind that we had to go against the first half and we were worried that’d we have to shut them down so we would’t have to chase some goals.
“Sure enough we scored right before halftime. Then in the second half we had the wind, and that was really helpful because we have good long-range shooters.”
Nine minutes into the second half, Dahlman’s corner kick was headed in by Winkler for a 2-0 lead. In the 60th minute Winkler bombed in her second goal from 35 yards.
Winkler then assisted on Schmautz’s goal.
Aerin Todd was in goal for the Pack and stopped seven shots and the defense in front of her — Neve Travis moved over to Rachel Brannan’s defensive spot — kept a handle on Helena freshman Hailey Hayes, who has 20 goals.
Glacier avenged an early-season 3-1 home loss to Helena that dropped them to 1-3. The Wolfpack (9-3-2) haven’t lost in 10 matches since, including Friday’s win at Butte.
Helena (9-3-1) plays host to first-place Missoula Sentinel (9-1-3) on Saturday; the Bengals clinch second place and a first-round playoff bye with win or a tie; if Sentinel prevails Glacier moves past Helena to take the second-place bye.
