Tonight was the first top-25 rankings by the College Football Playoff committee, and for Notre Dame and many of the other top teams in the country, they found out if they need work to do, or if they’re in the 12-team field.
The Irish started the season with two-consecutive losses, but have since rebounded with six-straight wins and that was enough to impress the committee to rank them No. 10. This would mean that Notre Dame would be on the road during the first-round, and in this scenario they’d face off against BYU.
At the top of the rankings there wasn’t much change from the US LBM Coaches Poll as Ohio State, Indiana, Texas A&M, Alabama, and Georgia all held the same spot. It was after the top-5 where things looked different in the CFP over the polls, as Ole Miss was No. 6 followed by BYU, Texas Tech, Oregon and the Irish. The final two teams that round out the top-12 are Texas and Oklahoma.
There’s still plenty of season to be played out, but it’s nice to know that Notre Dame would be in with what they have done so far. If the Irish continue to win out, most likely they’ll be playing in the playoff for the second-consecutive season.
