Good news for Frankie Luvu and the Commanders ahead of Week 10 vs. Lions

The Washington Commanders‘ nightmare season spiraled further downward on Sunday night in a 38-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a gruesome arm injury, putting the remainder of his second season in jeopardy.

On Monday, it was revealed that Daniels suffered a dislocated elbow on his left (non-throwing) arm. He could potentially return this season. However, Washington didn’t receive good news on wide receiver/kick returner Luke McCaffrey (shoulder) and cornerback Marshon Lattimore (knee). Both players were lost for the season after suffering injuries in Sunday’s loss to Seattle.

On Monday night, the struggling Commanders took another hit when linebacker Frankie Luvu was suspended for Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions for “repeated violations of playing rules intended to protect the health and safety of players.”

To make it clear, Luvu was suspended for multiple hip-drop tackles. He was fined for three hip-drop tackles this season, including in Sunday’s loss to Seattle, but was not once penalized on the field. The suspension seemed severe.

Apparently, others agreed.

Luvu filed an immediate appeal, and his suspension was reduced to a $100,000 fine. Derrick Brooks, the hearing officer jointly approved by the NFL and the NFLPA, reduced the suspension.

Luvu is eligible to play on Sunday for the Commanders against the Lions.

Finally, some good news for the 3-6 Commanders heading into Week 10.
