In the biggest game of his young career, Chicago Bears rookie tight end Colston Loveland came up when his team needed him the most, scoring the game-winning 58-yard touchdown in a 47-42 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Getting more opportunities after Cole Kmet suffered a concussion in Cincinnati, Loveland finished the game with six receptions, a team-high 118 yards, and the first two touchdowns of his NFL career.
After the game, vvvLoveland talked about how he controlled his emotions during his game-winning 58-yard touchdown reception. From getting the pass down the middle of the field, to breaking tackles, and running into the red zone, Loveland liked his chances of getting the ball and when he did, he made the most of it.
“The play is called, seam [route] basically, split safety, I thought I had a pretty good chance of getting the ball,” Loveland said. “Caleb delivered it right on the money, right on my chest. I spin around, I’m still up, and I may as well and go and try and score this thing. It was tough, because if I get tackled, we might not have enough time to clock it or do that, it was kind of just in the moment thing. All of the glory to God for that one.”
It was the first real opportunity the Bears have had to see what potential Loveland has, and he proved it in a big way. He’s likely going to become a consistent target for Williams and the passing offense after his performance in Week 9, which will start to give the pay off after general manager Ryan Poles drafted him with the 10th overall pick this year.
