Early in the second quarter, Jackson Powers-Johnson went down in pain. Replays show he rolled his left ankle. He was slow to get up and was helped off the field by two trainers. Shortly thereafter, he was carted to the locker room. And before half time, he was officially ruled OUT for the remainder of the game.
He was replaced at right guard by veteran Alex Cappa.
JPJ was named the starting right guard this season over Cappa, who had been signed in the offseason. Previously, Powers-Johnson was the team’s starting center, but the new staff decided they liked Jordan Meredith for that job and JPJ over Cappa at guard. Now they get Cappa at right guard anyway.
To make matters worse, a short time after JPJ was ruled out, the Raiders lost left guard Dylan Parham to an ankle injury. He is questionable to return and was replaced by reserve center/guard Will Putnam.
Powers-Johnson won the Rimington Award at Oregon as the nation’s top center. He was selected with the 44th overall pick in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft as a result.
