Geno Smith injured, Raiders season all but over in loss to Broncos

Geno Smith has had the season from hell in Sin City.

What was supposed to be a change of scenery for the better and to become the face of the Las Vegas Raiders franchise has turned into a slow trainwreck that has left him and his team dismantled. Smith left Thursday’s game with a leg injury in the fourth quarter of the team’s loss to the Denver Broncos.

At 2-7, the Raiders are effectively eliminated from playoff contention in a year where they thought they’d be returning to the postseason for the first time since 2021. The hiring of legendary head coach Pete Carroll, the trade for Smith, and the drafting of game-changing running back Ashton Jeanty were a trifecta of moves believed to take Las Vegas to new heights.

Instead, Smith limped off the field, and for what seems like it has been for the past quarter century, the Raiders will look towards the 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh.

Smith signed a two-year extension with the Raiders in April for $75 million, including $66.5 million guaranteed.
