Browns' Myles Garrett shoots down trade rumors, Eagles speculation after deadline: 'Got nothing to do with me'

It’s been a roller-coaster year for Browns pass rusher Myles Garrett. In February, Garrett requested a trade from the team he had spent his entire eight-year career with because he wanted to play on a team that could contend for a Super Bowl.

A month later, he re-signed with the Browns on a four-year, $160 million contract that made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. Heading into Week 10, the Browns sit at 2-5 and have little hope of reaching Garrett’s previous lofty goals.

With all the star movement at this trade deadline, Garrett spoke to reporters on Friday about whether he had any “curiosity” at the deadline.

“I’m not concerned with any trade with me or anyone else,” Garrett said.

While Yahoo Sports reported last week that the Browns weren’t taking calls on Garrett, the 29-year-old addressed rumors that connected him to Philadelphia and their search for a pass rusher. Ultimately, they traded for former Miami pass rusher Jaelan Phillips and brought back longtime Eagle Brandon Graham out of retirement.

“Got nothing to do with me,” Garrett said. “What Howie and the Eagles choose to talk about is of no concern.”

While Garrett says he is not concerned about the trade talk, he hasn’t been shy about voicing his displeasure with how this season has gone. In Week 8, Garrett’s record-setting five sacks against the New England Patriots were not enough to get the job done. Visibly frustrated after the loss, Garrett slammed his helmet on the ground and sat alone at the end of the bench.

This season, Garrett has 10 sacks, 22 tackles and 1 forced fumble.

As this NFL trade deadline and even last winter’s NBA trade deadline — see the Luka Doncic trade — proved, stars are not untradeable. Just this week, the Jets traded Quinnen Williams and Sauce Gardner, two players who were once viewed as cornerstones for the franchise.

The Browns also notably moved former cornerback Greg Emerson to the Jacksonville Jaguars and former starting quarterback Joe Flacco to a divisional rival, who has since given the Bengals life at the position.

While Garrett’s staying put in Cleveland for now, what the future holds is anyone’s guess.
