The Jacksonville Jaguars’ defense needs more from their pass rush unit in the second half of the season.
So, if GM James Gladstone wants to make an outside addition, which players are still available?
The Jaguars‘ inconsistent pass rush certainly wasn’t the sole reason they lost to Houston, but it was a critical factor, and it’s been an issue for much of the season.
As a collective group, Jacksonville ranks 20th in ESPN’s pass rush win rate metric, and they are tied for last in sacks this season.
“That’s something we definitely need to talk about as a staff and as a group,” Liam Coen said of the pass rush after the loss, via ESPN. “That hasn’t been good enough all season and wasn’t good enough [Sunday].
“It’s never one group’s fault when you lose a game. That’s not what we’re going to do here, but it definitely is a challenge for us.”
Defensive tackle, specifically, is the greater need for the Jaguars than defensive end. However, as this team looks for more pass rush juice, bolstering the depth at either position group should be on Gladstone’s radar.
Jacksonville currently has $9.09 million in available salary cap space, according to Over the Cap, which is more than enough room to make a signing, particularly when no November addition is going to break the bank.
As you can imagine, when it comes to available free agents at this time of the year, there aren’t many options out there. But with help from Spotrac, here are some defensive tackles and defensive ends who remain unsigned.
Free agent defensive tackle options for Jaguars
- Raekwon Davis
- Montravius Adams
- Linval Joseph
- Maurice Hurst
- Khalil Davis
- Armon Watts
Free agent defensive end options for Jaguars
- DeMarcus Walker
- Shaq Barrett
- John Cominsky
- Oshane Ximines
The Jaguars could also wait and see if anyone is released around the NFL and put in a waiver claim or sign a player from another team’s practice squad to their own active roster.
