Nico Harrison had document that showed Jrue Holiday on same tier as Nikola Jokic

One team source recalls a document where Harrison placed Jrue Holiday within the same tier of talent as Nikola Jokić. While at Nike, Harrison’s role involved talent evaluation. But from the very first moment he was hired, several league sources say, there were questions whether those evaluations would translate to coherent team building.

Dan Patrick: Jeff Teague on his podcast got into a discussion about Joker versus Shaq. How would they do against each other? They were talking about Shaq in Orlando would dominate Joker, but Joker with Shaq after that. Bbecause he’s inside outside that he would probably drive Shaq crazy. Reggie Miller: Okay, let me first start saying, are we playing in today’s rules or are we playing in Shaq’s rules in the 90s, early 2000s? Like, which one do we get to do? Does Shaq get to get it in the post and turn? This was Shaq’s favorite move and he got away with it today’s game, he wouldn’t be able to get away with that. So, which rules are we playing with? Patrick: Okay, if you said, let’s play today’s rules and I got Shaq at his peak and Joker at his peak. Who you got? Miller: I think Shaq dominates in any era. Let me start by saying that. So it it wouldn’t matter. I just think they would put Shaq in a gazillion pick and rolls in today’s game and get him out of the paint. Shaq would have to cover more paint. Now, I do agree. Orlando Shaq, who was nimble and skinnier and could run all day, I think he would thrive. I still think the most dominant of Shaq when he was in LA and much bigger, he would still have an effect on the game. How would he do versus Joker? I would love to see… I’m still going with Big Fella. Look, Shaq, he denied me on a lot of occasions. YouTube | Nov. 11, 2025

Nico Harrison’s reaction to Mavs fans chanting to fire him x.com | Nov. 11, 2025

As the game wound down, chants of “Fire Nico” rang through the lower bowl of American Airlines Center during Mavericks free throw attempts, directed at general manager Nico Harrison. Kidd downplayed the noise postgame. “That’s a good question — you have to ask them that,” Kidd said when asked if the chants impacted players. “They’re playing. I think it’s just noise. We put ourselves in position to win tonight.” Williams said the team tried to block out the distractions. “It’s unfortunate, but we’ve got to play through it,” he said. Dallas Hoops Journal | Nov. 11, 2025

The Mavericks, in their current form, are broken and can’t be fixed without changes. As one high-level league source told The Athletic, “You can’t put Humpty Dumpty back together again.” Harrison’s decision to trade Dončić, which Dumont signed off on, unleashed a tsunami of fan anger. Fans called for Harrison’s dismissal with “Fire Nico” chants throughout the final three months of last season, and they haven’t let up this year. The “Fire Nico” chants resumed in the Mavericks’ Oct. 24 home loss to the Washington Wizards. Fans continued with the four-syllable chant Monday during the fourth quarter of the Mavericks’ 116-114 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. New York Times | Nov. 11, 2025
