The last time Texas A&M basketball was on the court, it wasn’t pretty, as they fell to Oklahoma State on the road. On Friday night, they will have a chance to get back on track when they host the UCF Knights at Reed Arena in Bryan–College Station.
Coach Bucky McMillan said at the beginning of the season that there will be good days and there will be bad days, but as the season progresses, they will figure things out. The most glaring issue in the loss against Oklahoma State, outside of the poor shooting, was the half-court defense. In practice, that was the emphasis throughout the week because if you can’t play defense when you are a three-point shooting team, games can get away from you quickly if you have an off night, as we witnessed in their last game.
UCF, like A&M, essentially is returning a brand-new team, as they lost 100% of their scoring from last season, and they are also working through rotations and finding their identity. They shot well from beyond the arc in the last two games and moved the ball effectively, averaging 18.7 assists per game. However, they are also averaging 14.7 turnovers per game while forcing 11.3.
These teams have only met once, and that was last season, when UCF won 64–61 after pulling away late to upset the No. 13 Aggies at Addition Arena in Florida. That loss snapped a 23-game winning streak the Aggies had in season openers. With a new head coach and looking to bounce back, the Aggies aim to even the series at one apiece.
