Rookie Will Riley led the Capital City Go-Go in scoring during his debut in the G League on Friday in a loss against the College Park Skyhawks on the road.
Riley produced 25 points, seven assists, six rebounds and one steal in the 121-113 defeat at Gateway Center Arena. He finished by shooting 11-of-17 from the field, including 2-of-7 from 3-point range, and was a plus-seven in 37 minutes on the court.
The 21st pick in the draft showcased his overall skill set in the contest, from his finishing at the rim to his ability to pull up in the mid-range. He also dazzled as a playmaker at times, with his look-ahead passes and lobs deep in the paint.
Riley was assigned to the Go-Go on Friday after playing sparingly to begin the season with the Wizards, totaling just 63 minutes across nine games. He has mostly played mop-up duty and only logged 3 1/2 minutes in his last appearance on Wednesday.
The 19-year-old was highly touted out of college because of his ability as a two-way player who can guard multiple positions, traits that were on display on Friday. He drew praise in training camp thanks to his energy and intensity on the court, which attracted the team to draft him.
Riley is expected to remain with the Go-Go on their two-game set against the Skyhawks that wraps up on Sunday. The contest will allow him to continue his development and stay ready to contribute for the Wizards when his number is called.
