New York Giants' Cam Skattebo provides encouraging injury update

New York Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo suffered a gruesome ankle injury in a Week 8 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles that required immediate surgery and hospitalization.

It was later revealed that Skattebo had suffered an open dislocation of his ankle, a fractured fibula, and deltoid ligament rupture. Team doctors had to cut off his cleat on the field in order to stabilize the ankle before ushering him to the hospital.

Although the injury looked and sounded horrific, there was optimism that recovery and rehab would be straightforward as long as Skattebo avoided infection.

The good news? He has.

During a World of Warcraft stream on Twitch, Skattebo provided an encouraging update on his health and recovery, revealing that he has regained full function of his ankle, foot, and toes.

“Ankle’s good,” he said, sitting back in his chair to showcase the returned function. “Update, cat. I can even move my toes and (expletive). . . I’m getting better every day. Every day, chat. It’s getting better. I can move my toes, chat.”

Skattebo’s live streams have gained popularity in the aftermath of his injury. An earlier clip of the rookie asking chat how they eat tacos went viral, as did another clip where he showed off a gnarly shoulder joint injury from years of playing football.

“I got a twin here,” he said. “I scratch my chin with this.”

On Saturday night, Skattebo surfaced at UFC 322, where he sat cage-side and met Hasbulla, among other celebrities.

Early expectations are that Skattebo will return by the time organized team activities get underway in April.
