Why was Jordan Love's PFF grade so high against Giants?

Not all grades for Week 11 are currently in and posted, but with most of the games graded, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love leads all players at his position this week with an elite 93.1 overall grade at Pro Football Focus.

Why was Love’s grade against the New York Giants so high despite what appear to be average box score numbers? The answer is in the context, which PFF’s grades can provide in an instance like this.

On Sunday, Love completed 13 of 24 passes, or only 54.1 percent, for 174 yards (7.3 yards per attempt) and two touchdown passes. His passer rating was 105.2, which ranks as only the fifth-best finish for Love in a game this season.

But Love’s 93.1 grade was his first grade above 90.0 in 2025.

Here’s the why behind the grade:

— PFF charted four drops of Love’s passes — two from Romeo Doubs, one from Luke Musgrave and one from Dontayvion Wicks. The two from Doubs cost Love over 30 yards passing, and the first ended a drive on third down. A fifth drop was negated by penalty, and Christian Watson had a failed contested catch on a perfect deep ball from Love on third down.

— Because of the drops, a batted ball and two throws while he was being hit, Love’s adjusted completion percentage was 85.0, or over 30 points higher than his actual completion percentage.

— Love had an average depth of target of 13.6 yards, the highest among quarterbacks currently graded in Week 11, but also an 85.0 adjusted completion percentage. This is an elite combination of attacking down the field and accuracy from the quarterback position.

— Love was credited with three big time throws and zero turnover worthy plays. All three big time throws were on passing attempts thrown at least 20 yards in the air, including the go-ahead touchdown pass to Christian Watson. Another big-time throw wasn’t hung onto by Watson on third down. His deep passing grade was 93.6.

— Love had an adjusted completion percentage of 86.5 from clean pockets. His pass grade from clean pocket was 94.7. When kept clean this season, Love has been arguably the best quarterback in football. He also completed two passes and scrambled once under pressure — his two completions gained first downs, including a 33-yarder to Savion Williams on 3rd-and-10. One pass was dropped by Doubs beyond the sticks on third down after Love expertly avoided pressure.

— On passes thrown over 10 yards down the field, Love completed eight for 147 yards, and two of his passes at this distance were dropped.

While not factored into the grades, Love also overcame a left shoulder injury suffered in the first half. He immediately led a touchdown drive upon returning. He also led the Packers on a go-ahead touchdown drive to open the second half, and his touchdown pass to Watson with just over four minutes to go ended up being the game-winner.

Also, the wind at MetLife Stadium was a major factor throughout the game, but it would have been hard to tell given how well Love placed the football in the passing game.

The lesson here: Box score scouting in football can be dangerous. Sometimes, the numbers can tell an accurate story. Sometimes, the number can lie, or hide the full truth. In the case of Jordan Love against the Giants, the contextualized PFF grade more accurately described the quality of the performance.
