LAFAYETTE ― The IHSAA football season ended for Lafayette area teams last week, while girls basketball and girls wrestling is in full swing.
Here’s a look at the Ivy Tech Athlete of the Week candidates between Nov. 10-15. Fans and readers can vote an unlimited number of times until Thursday at 11:59 p.m.

Male Athlete of the Week candidates
- Trysten Barrett, Lafayette Jeff – Barrett completed 27 of 39 passes for 525 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in the Bronchos’ 47-45 loss to Concord in the IHSAA class 5A football regional championship.
- Coleman Ottinger, Twin Lakes – Ottinger intercepted a pass 54 yards for a touchdown and finished with six tackles including one for loss in Twin Lakes 3A football regional title loss at home to Fort Wayne Luers.
- Bryce VanOstran, Lafayette Jeff – VanOstran caught 13 receptions for 281 yards and three touchdowns against Concord.
- Bronson Clark, Southmont – Clark made 15 tackles in Southmont’s 52-32 loss against Andrean in the IHSAA class 2A regional final.
- Matthew “Chewie” Walters, Twin Lakes – Walters made a game high 15 tackles for Twin Lakes against Fort Wayne Luers.
- Tarvaris Fernandez, Lafayette Jeff – Fernandez rushed for 141 yards and scored three touchdowns on 21 carries against Concord.
- John Smaltz, Southmont – The senior offensive and defensive linemen blocked for an offense that scored five touchdowns against Andrean. Smaltz also had three tackles including two for loss on defense.
Female Athlete of the Week candidates
- Mary Fordyce, West Lafayette, wrestling – Fordyce went 4-0 with three wins by pinfall and a 16-1 decisional fall to capture the 115-pound championship at the Purdue Polytechnic Tournament last Saturday.
- Maya Layton, Lafayette Jeff, basketball – Layton flirted with a quadruple double, gathering 15 points with eight rebounds, seven assists and seven steals while her team forced 28 turnovers to beat Lake Central 54-42 last Wednesday.
- Ava Mills, Delphi, basketball – Mills scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds, three assists and four steals to lead Delphi over Twin Lakes 47-35 last Saturday.
- Addison Culbreth, North Newton, basketball – Culbreth scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead North Newton over River Forest 46-23.
- Kamri Rowland, Rensselaer, basketball – Rowland scored 26 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead Rensselaer over Knox 63-20 last Saturday.
- Ava Burkle, Rossville, basketball – Burkle scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds to beat Fountain Central 41-36 last Saturday and led the Hornets with 21 points, secured 12 boards with five steals in her team’s debut in a win 58-42 against Western Boone last Tuesday.
