Is the Kansas City Chiefs’ reign at the top of the AFC over? According to Colin Cowherd, it may be after the Denver Broncos‘ win this past Sunday.
The Broncos solidified their standing in the AFC West with a decisive 22-19 victory over the Chiefs, cementing their status as the current king of the division. With a 9-2 record and a bye week coming up, the Broncos’ win dropped the Chiefs to 5-5, a .500 record far from what they are accustomed to.
Which is why Cowherd believes that the Chiefs and them not being atop of the AFC West is the new normal. With Denver head coach Sean Payton and Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh, Cowherd believes the Chiefs’ days of reigning in the AFC and the AFC West are over. To him, Denver has no fear of the reigning AFC champions.

All dynasties have a time of reign and a time when things aren’t the same. As Cowherd noted, Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes’ landmark contract in 2020 has tied the hands of the front office when it comes to retaining and attracting top talent. However, it isn’t an excuse that maybe, just maybe: the AFC West belongs to the Broncos.
