An upcoming regional finals football game has caused an uproar on social media.
The Division 1 playoff game between St. Xavier High School and Elder High School on Friday, Nov. 21, which will determine who plays in the state semifinals, sold out the same day tickets became available.
Elder High School announced the tickets were sold out on Facebook around 1:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17.
The 7 p.m. game is scheduled to take place at Beacon Orthopedics Trihealth Stadium, which is owned by Mason City Schools. The stadium holds 6,000 seats.
Social media users are calling for the game to move to Nippert Stadium at the University of Cincinnati or Paycor Stadium, where the Cincinnati Bengals play, so that more people can attend.
The Enquirer contacted the Cincinnati Bengals, University of Cincinnati Athletics and the Ohio High School Athletic Association to inquire if moving the game would be possible. None of the parties have responded yet.
The Ohio high school football regional playoffs follow a bracket format. Rebracketing will occur for the state semifinals on Nov. 28.
The state championship games will be hosted at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Dec. 4-6.
