Four days after being cut by the Denver Broncos, veteran wide receiver Trent Sherfield has landed on his feet.
Sherfield (6-1, 206 pounds) signed with the Arizona Cardinals‘ practice squad on Wednesday. It’s a homecoming for the 29-year-old receiver who spent the first three years of his NFL career in Arizona.
“I can’t really put it into words,” Sherfield said of returning to where his pro career began. “I’ve kind of just been soaking it in. It feels like home — I’m literally right in my same locker where I was right next to ‘Fitz’ [Larry Fitzgerald]. It’s a blessing.”
To make room for Sherfield on their practice squad, the Cardinals cut another former Broncos wide receiver, Jalen Virgil.

Sherfield signed a two-year, $6 million contract with Denver this spring. He played 51% of the special teams snaps through the first 10 games of the season and had a minor role on offense with three receptions for 21 yards. The Broncos cut him last Saturday after bringing back Lil’Jordan Humphrey.
