Here's when we would know if Joe Burrow will play vs. New England Patriots

If Joe Burrow is going to play for the Cincinnati Bengals on Nov. 23 against the New England Patriots, the NFL community will know soon.

The Bengals on Nov. 10 started a 21-day practice window. The organization has until Dec. 1 to decide to activate Burrow from injured reserve, and playing on Nov. 23 gives the Bengals until 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22 to make a final decision for that game.

After taking steps forward as full participant in practice Nov. 19 and Nov. 20, some are speculating Burrow could return for the Nov. 23 Patriots game at Paycor Stadium. That would be far earlier than the initial prognostications of a Burrow return in mid-December following the Week 2 turf toe injury he sustained and required surgery.

A return by Burrow for the New England game would also be earlier than Thanksgiving Night against the Baltimore Ravens, which Burrow indicated was a matchup that would be meaningful for him to play in.

Bengals Joe Burrow (9) returns to practice on Monday November 10, 2025.

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor on Nov. 19 was non-committal about Burrow’s status for the New England game, as well as anything beyond that.

Bengals receiver Tee Higgins on Nov. 20 said he thought Burrow was practicing as well as he had during Week 1 but would be surprised to see him play against the Patriots.
