New England Patriots rookie edge rusher Bradyn Swinson was sought after by multiple teams while on the practice squad, but he rejected those offers to stay with the Patriots.
Swinson was one of the biggest surprise roster cuts at the end of training camp after being selected in the fifth round with the 146th overall pick of the 2025 NFL draft. He showed a lot of promise coming out of LSU with 8.5 sacks in his final season with the team.
The Patriots ultimately brought him back on the practice squad, where he has competed and improved under coach Mike Vrabel. Other teams, including the rival Buffalo Bills, were paying attention and lurking as potential landing spots for the young defender on a 53-man roster.
“I’ll just tell you one – Buffalo was one of them,” Swinson told MassLive’s Mark Daniels. “A lot of division rivals were reaching out, trying to get you off your division squad, but you know how that goes. But other than that, everything was pretty good. I’m squared away being a Patriot, and I love being here.”
Swinson was signed to the Patriots’ 53-man roster this week. So everything worked out in the end the way everyone initially expected.
Swinson has serious potential as a player who could offer additional pass-rushing help on defense. That additional help is much-needed for the Patriots with star defensive tackle Milton Williams on the shelf for at least the next four games with an ankle injury.
