A cold reception for the winger who said “no” to Barcelona
Nico Williams endured hostile night at Camp Nou as Barcelona fans repeatedly booed & jeered the Athletic Bilbao winger during his team’s clash with the Catalan giants , his first appearance at the stadium since rejecting move to Barca last summer.
Williams was one of Barcelona’s top transfer targets ahead of the 2024 /25 season but after lengthy negotiations he chose to extend his contract with Athletic Club, a decision that frustrated sections of the Blaugrana fanbase.

Booed during warm up and every time he touched the ball
According to Mundo Deportivo, tension was clear even before kick off. As Williams stepped onto the pitch for the pre match warm up, loud whistles & chants rained down from the stands in Barcelona’s long awaited return to their renovated home ground.
The hostility continued throughout the match:
- Barca supporters mocked him after misplaced shot
- Every touch he took was met with boos
- Jeers intensified whenever he carried the ball forward
It was pointed reaction from fans who believed Williams had come close to joining their club before opting to remain in Bilbao.
