Arch Manning has career day in Texas dominating win over Arkansas

Texas was able to get a dominating win over Arkansas, 52-37, largely on the back of Arch Manning, who put together his best day as a Texas Longhorn. Manning finished the day with 6 TDs, including the unique trifecta of a passing, rushing and receiving TD for the Longhorn signal caller.

Manning’s day was defined by chunk pass plays, something Arkansas had made a habit of giving up. Manning connected on three passes of 40+ yards and added multiple more 30+ yard passes as well. The Manning to DeAndre Moore Jr. connection was strong, with 74 yards and 3 of Manning’s 4 TD passes going to the junior WR.

The game started as well as any has for Arch Manning in a Longhorn jersey. Started 6/6 passing with 125 yards and 2 scores, along with a receiving TD on the famous “Philly Special” play. Manning hit DeAndre Moore on a broken coverage for a 46-yard TD to open the scoring, and it didn’t slow down from there.

Parker Livingstone was able to hit Manning for the receiving TD on the second drive, channeling his father Cooper, Arch made a nice play to push the lead to 14-6. It’s a good thing the Texas offense was rolling, because Arkansas was answering every score early. Manning had his first incompletion, a throw away, on the Longhorns 3rd drive, but followed it up with a 54-yard TD to Livingstone to return the favor.

The Texas offense slowed down slightly to finish the first half, punting the next two drives, before being able to convert a short field into a Mason Shipley FG. Manning finished the first half 10/18 for 213 yards and 3 TDs(2 passing, 1 receiving), with a few drops from the Longhorn WRs mixed in.

The Longhorns were able to score 24 in the first half for the second home game in a row, but the struggles from the defense kept the game at just a 4-point Longhorn advantage.

Manning and the Texas offense got the ball out of half and marched right down the field in 5 plays to extend the lead back to 11 points. Manning hit Mosley on the first play of the drive, a 30-yard pass, quickly followed by a 35-yard connection to Jack Endries. After a few minor miscues, Manning was able to convert the 2nd and goal for a 3-yard TD run, giving him a passing, rushing and receiving TD on the day.

Following a Jelani McDonald INT, the Texas offense got another short field to work with. Manning connected with Wingo for a big play to set up 1st and goal. On 3rd and goal, Manning made a remarkable off schedule play, breaking a tackle and throwing a TD to DeAndre Moore Jr. in the back of the endzone, extending the lead to 38-20.

The Texas defense was able to keep the lead at two scores, only allowing a FG. Manning and the offense took the field up 38-23 and did exactly what they have been doing all day. Arch Manning connected with Parker Livingstone for a 50-yard pass to set up the Longhorns in the red zone. Two plays later, Manning found DeAndre Moore Jr. for Manning’s 4th passing TD, extending the lead to 45-23 in favor of the Longhorns.

A Liona Lefau scoop and score pushed the lead to 29 and effectively ended Arch Manning’s day. Manning would make his way back on the field after Arkansas’ TD drive, but the Longhorns leaned on the run, with a screen pass to get a 3rd down being Manning’s only pass of the drive. That would be Manning’s final snap of a career day.

Arch Manning and the Longhorns move forward to the final game of the regular season against bitter rival, Texas A&M. Manning leaves the day with 6 total TDs, including the trifecta of passing, rushing and receiving TDs for the first time since 2014 in the SEC. Hopefully he can build off that heading into a massive rivalry matchup against the Aggies.
