Rams overtake Eagles as No. 1 seed and Super Bowl favorites

There’s a new No. 1 – and not just at the top of the NFC standings.

With the Philadelphia Eagles’ loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday afternoon and the Los Angeles Rams34-7 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the night slot, Sean McVay’s squad has taken over as the top team in the conference.

The Rams now hold sole possession of the No. 1 seed in the NFC, pulling one game ahead of the Eagles. Not only that, but the Rams are now the betting favorites to win the Super Bowl. According to BetMGM, they have the shortest odds of any team in the NFL at +425, leapfrogging the Eagles, who are now +600 to hoist the Lombardi again.

There are still six games left to go for the Rams and the Eagles own the head-to-head tiebreaker thanks to their Week 3 win, but this was an important day for Los Angeles. It now controls its own destiny in the conference, clinching a first-round bye if it can win out.

Week 16 against the Seahawks will be a big one, as will Week 15 against the Detroit Lions, but the Rams look almost unstoppable right now after winning six straight. Their only two losses were games where they essentially gave it away to the Eagles and San Francisco 49ers; you could make a case they should be undefeated right now.

Sean McVay will ensure his team takes it one week at a time and doesn’t look too far ahead with the Panthers and Cardinals next on the schedule, but it’s hard not to get excited about where this Rams group could go in January.
