Iowa football preparing for Nebraska freshman QB TJ Lateef

This Friday is going to be a different look for the Nebraska Cornhuskers than many thought at the start of the year. After starting quarterback Dylan Raiola went down for the season a few weeks ago with a leg injury, they turned to freshman quarterback TJ Lateef.

The Iowa Hawkeyes will take on another quarterback early in his career, something that defensive coordinator Phil Parker has always had massive success with, when they meet up on Friday. Kirk Ferentz discussed how the Hawkeyes are preparing for Lateef.

“We have a lot of good video on Lateef, and he’s done a really nice job. He’s out there playing well.

They’ve changed a little bit offensively, but not dramatically. You still have to prepare.

He’s a really good football player. The other guy was just an unusual passer, very gifted, very talented passer. Aren’t many guys in the country that can throw the ball like he did, but they’ve made that adjustment and shifted pretty fluidly, and it’s not affected them at all.

The good news is, again, we have film of him and film of them playing with him. Now the challenge is to try to stop what they’re doing with him,” Ferentz said about Iowa‘s plans to slow down TJ Lateef.

Lateef has started two games for Nebraska this year, a 28-21 win over UCLA and a 37-10 loss to Penn State. In his two starts, he has gone 34-52 for 392 yards and three touchdowns. He has also run for 46 yards and a score on 15 carries in those two starts.

TJ Lateef, a product of Orange Lutheran High School and Orange, California, was rated a four-star prospect and the No. 20 quarterback in the class of 2025, per 247Sports. He chose Nebraska over offers from Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Ole Miss, Penn State, Texas A&M, and Indiana, among others.
