Dec. 3 (UPI) — Georgia Tech approved a new contract for football coach Brent Key, adding one year and increasing his salary, the Yellow Jackets announced Wednesday.
Key will now be under contract through the 2030 season. Sources told ESPN and Yahoo Sports that he will make an average annual salary of $6.5 million, an increase of $2 million from his current pact.
“I’m grateful to president Angel Cabrera, [athletic director] Ryan Alpert, [Associate Vice President] Brent Jones and the GTAA Board of Trustees for their continued belief and investment in Georgia Tech football,” Key said. “There is no other place or opportunity out there like Georgia Tech.”
The Yellow Jackets went 27-19 over the last four seasons under Key. Key led the Yellow Jackets to a 9-3 record so far this season. They sit at No. 22 in the College Football Playoff rankings.
Key’s Yellow Jackets rank 28th in points per game and 71st in points allowed. They rank 19th in rushing yards per game and 29th in passing yards per game.
“Our goal is to build a championship program,” Key said. “I’m proud of the steps that we’ve taken towards reaching that goal, but I’m not satisfied. Building a championship program is not possible without everyone being aligned.
“To our fans and students — everything that you do for our program matters and is appreciated. You’ve made Bobby Dodd Stadium one of the biggest home field advantages in all of college football. We need everyone to be all in to get where we want to go. Together, we’ll achieve great things. Go Jackets!”
The Yellow Jackets were included in each of the first five editions of the 2025 College Football Playoff rankings, accomplishing that feat for the first time in the 12-year history of the College Football Playoff.
