Wisconsin football's top 2026 commit flips on National Signing Day

Wisconsin football’s top 2026 commit, running back Amari Latimer, flipped to West Virginia on Wednesday. He did so during an official signing ceremony at high school, coinciding with the start of the Early Signing Period for the class.

The last-minute flip follows several months of hints that the four-star prospect may play his college football elsewhere; Latimer was predicted to flip to Ohio State in mid-October. He did so instead to West Virginia after visiting the program on Nov. 29.

247Sports ranks Latimer as the No. 265 overall player in the class, the No. 19 running back and the No. 35 recruit from his home state. He joins a West Virginia class that ranks No. 25 nationally with 43 players committed. Wisconsin, meanwhile, now ranks just No. 77 nationally with 13 players signed. The class is without a blue-chip prospect after Latimer and wide receiver Jayden Petit’s recent decommitments.

Wisconsin will likely still look to add to its class. Still, given the lower quantity of commits in the cycle, the program is primed for a significant winter transfer window.
