The National Football League made an important decision regarding the 2026 NFL Draft being held at the Pittsburgh Steelers‘ Acrisure Stadium and throughout the Steel City.
On Wednesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the league altered the times that teams would be given to make their picks, specifically in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
“Two-minute warning: The NFL notified teams today that it will shorten the time between picks in the first round of the draft from 10 to 8 minutes starting with the 2026 draft in Pittsburgh,” Schefter wrote via X. “This will shorten the length of the first round, which had been finishing around 11:45 p.m. ET. Teams were on board. Roger Goodell had first mentioned this possibility on the Friday of the Green Bay draft on Pat McAfee’s show.”
Lowering the first-round selection process to eight minutes for each team will save around an hour of time for the draft, giving fans in attendance and those watching at home a less drawn-out product overall.
Just a little over four months away from April’s draft, the Steelers are projected to have around 12 picks, including several top compensatory selections following the departures of OT Dan Moore Jr., QB Justin Fields, QB Russell Wilson, and CB Donte Jackson, giving Pittsburgh the opportunity to trade up for a high-profile player on their home turf.
