Three Jacksonville Jaguars’ assistant coaches under Liam Coen could be in store for some promotions in the not-so-distant future.
Conor Orr of Sports Illustrated put together his list of the top 43 head coaching candidates to know for the 2026 offseason. He also listed a number of future coordinators to keep our eyes on.
In terms of head coaching candidates, Jaguars‘ defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile and offensive coordinator Grant Udinski were both listed.
In Campanile’s first year as a defensive play caller, the Jaguars rank 11th in points per game allowed, 9th in yards per play, and have generated the second-most takeaways.
Campanile’s defensive system has proven to be malleable and quick to adjust based on the opponent and what his own players do best.
“Campanile has taken a talented but unproven roster and transformed it into a turnover machine,” Orr wrote.
At 29 years old, this is Udinski’s first season as an offensive coordinator. With Liam Coen calling plays, I would guess that at some point, the next step for Udinski in his coaching progression is to take on the role of play-calling offensive coordinator.
But nonetheless, he is a key part of a Jaguars’ offense that is ascending and currently ranks ninth in points per game. Under Coen and Udinski, this is an offensive scheme built on multiplicity and is rooted in the Sean McVay system.
“Udinski was a highly valuable member of Kevin O’Connell’s Vikings staff and his departure to Jacksonville was seen as a major coup for ascending first-year head coach Liam Coen,” Orr wrote.
Among the Jaguars’ assistants who made Orr’s list as potential future coordinators was quarterbacks coach Spencer Whipple.
“The longtime Kliff Kingsbury assistant is on the ground floor of an offensive turnaround that will have major ramifications across the AFC,” Orr said.
Not mentioned by Orr, but another name I’ll mention is tight ends coach Richard Angulo, who Coen recently praised heavily for the development of that position group.
