Edmonton Oilers trade for Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry

Dec. 12 (UPI) — The Edmonton Oilers acquired veteran goalie Tristan Jarry through a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins, the NHL teams announced Friday.

The Oilers agreed to send goalie Stuart Skinner, defenseman Brett Kulak and a second-round pick in the 2029 NHL Draft to the Penguins in exchange for Jarry and forward Sam Poulin.

Jarry logged a .909 save percentage and allowed 2.66 goals against average through 14 games this season. He recorded a matching .909 save percentage and 2.74 goals against average through the first 10 seasons of his career.

The 30-year-old All-Star net minder signed a five-year, $26.8 million contract with the Penguins in 2023. He is under contract through 2027-28.

Poulin, 24, joined the Penguins as the No. 21 overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft. He logged two assists over 15 appearances through his first four seasons. Poulin is set to become a restricted free agent this off-season.

Skinner, 27, registered a .891 save percentage and 2.83 goals against average through 23 appearances this season. He logged a .904 save percentage and 2.74 goals against average through his first six seasons for the Oilers.

He is set to hit free agency this off-season.

Kulak, 31, totaled two assists through 31 appearances this season. The 12-year veteran totaled 28 goals and 99 assists through the first 611 appearances of his career. He also is set to hit free agency this off-season.

The Oilers (14-11-6) will take on the Toronto Maple Leafs (14-11-5) at 7 p.m. EST Saturday in Toronto. The Penguins (14-8-7) will host the San Jose Sharks (15-14-3) at 3 p.m. Saturday in Pittsburgh.
