Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow isn’t going anywhere.
But some parts of the Bengals organization have had him frustrated in the past.
Burrow’s somber press conference that set off alarm bells in the media this week continues to command attention and speculation.
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini dove into the topic on Saturday, revealing that Burrow’s press conference wasn’t so much about sending a signal to the Bengals as it was about being simply tired of losing.
But Russini also noted that certain parts of the Bengals organization have frustrated him in the past:
“Does that mean he’s thrilled with everything inside the Bengals’ building? No. People close to him have made it clear that certain parts of the Bengals’ operation, with the smallest coaching and scouting staffs in the league, have previously frustrated him.”

So, the majority of Bengals fans who knew what Burrow’s press conference was…were right.
Burrow is tired of losing. He just rushed back from an injury and now sits on the cusp of playoff elimination at 4-9. It’s been an exhausting season and, frankly, an exhausting few years in Cincinnati.
But quitting? No chance. And as Russini accurately notes, there’s no frustration from Burrow with his offensive line, considering it’s the best he’s had since he entered the NFL. The national clip-farming side of media simply hasn’t caught up to that fact.
The inept scouting and player personnel department, headed up by Duke Tobin, has colossally failed over the years and earned the ire, though. While Burrow was out injured, this came to a head when Al Golden’s defense was on pace to be the worst statistical unit of all time.
Maybe Burrow’s presser wasn’t throwing out hints that something needs to change. But it’s hard to deny the Bengals feel like a team headed for massive change next offseason, anyway.
Russini’s one-liner that will make Bengals fans happy feels like a good ending point here: “The answer is no. Burrow, I’m told, hasn’t asked for a trade or even hinted at stepping away.”
