When will Steelers' T.J. Watt return? Insider hints at return date

Pittsburgh Steelers OLB T.J. Watt received an important injury update, as one well-respected insider provided a possible return date, but it likely won’t be this Sunday against the Detroit Lions.

After missing back-to-back practices, Watt appears to be trending in the wrong direction ahead of this Sunday’s matchup versus the Lions — but NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport believes this might be the last game he misses as he recovers from his lung setback.

“Certainly looking like he is not going to be out on the field in a big one against the Detroit Lions,” Rapoport said. “The hope is he could be back the following week [against the Cleveland Browns].”

Undergoing surgery to repair a partially collapsed lung, Watt is on pace to miss his second game after the infamous dry needling mishap, but with OLB Nick Herbig also dealing with an injury, rookie OLB Jack Sawyer could very well see his first NFL start against the Lions in Week 16.
