Former Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has joined Portuguese league leaders Porto until the end of the season at the age of 41.
The 113-cap Brazil international played for Porto’s B team 20 years ago and after winning the Champions League during four years at Stamford Bridge, rejoined his boyhood club Fluminense in the summer of 2024 on a two-year deal.
He made 46 appearances for Fluminense last season but agreed to terminate his contract with the club six months early on Tuesday.
In a statement from Porto, Silva said he was “happy and flattered” to be given the opportunity to return to Europe to continue playing.
“I’m super motivated, and I hope I can help in the best way possible,” he added.
Silva, who has also played for AC Milan and Paris St-Germain, has won 32 trophies during his career, including seven French Ligue 1 titles.
Porto are five points clear of Sporting at the top of the Primeira Liga table.
