Falcons Wire behind enemy lines: Previewing Week 16 with Cards Wire

The Atlanta Falcons are back on the road in Week 16 for a Sunday afternoon showdown against the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium. While the 2025 NFL season hasn’t gone well for either team, there are still jobs on the line for players and coaches on both sides.

The Falcons have been maddeningly inconsistent in Year 2 under head coach Raheem Morris. Meanwhile, the Cardinals are riding a six-game losing streak and could make significant changes in the offseason. Both teams are already down to their backup quarterbacks.

Kirk Cousins has replaced an injured Michael Penix Jr. in Atlanta, and Jacoby Brissett has taken over for Kyler Murray in Arizona. To help us preview Sunday’s game, we went behind enemy lines with Cards Wire editor Jess Root for the inside scoop on Week 16.

What has gone wrong during 6-game losing streak?

Cards Wire: What hasn’t gone wrong? The defense is garbage, as they have allowed 40-plus points in four of their last six games. They don’t stop running backs. They don’t limit opponents’ top receivers. They cant run the ball. They haven’t forced a takeaway since Week 12. They don’t score points, even though they have gaudy passing numbers. They have suffered more injuries than anyone. Name it, it’s not going well.

How has QB Jacoby Brissett fared this season?

Cards Wire: If you look at the stat sheet, he has been solid. In nine games, he has passed for 249 yards or more. He has 18 touchdown passes to six interceptions. However, he is 1-8. He has been part of four losses by three or more scores. And in four five opportunities at the end of the fourth quarter or overtime when he could have led a game-winning score, he has failed.

Is Kyler Murray’s time in Arizona over?

Cards Wire: It appears so. All the PR coming out of Tempe is how Brissett is good in the locker room. They keep feeding the stats he has. Murray is out of sight and out of mind. And the fact that Jonathan Gannon said that Brissett would have started in Week 10 even if Murray were healthy makes it seem like there is no coming back.

Is there any chance Jonathan Gannon keeps his job?

Cards Wire: Believe it or not, yes. The players like him. The owner likes him. He did build a good culture and there was progress for two seasons. A lot of reasons contribute to why this year has happened, but if he does keep his job, his seat will be hot next season.

Who wins on Sunday/final score prediction?

Cards Wire: This is a tough pick. Both teams struggle. But the Cardinals will struggle against Bijan Robinson, Drake London and Kyle Pitts. While the Arizona offense should be able to score points, when it comes to the end of the game, Kirk Cousins is a player you can count on. Brissett hasn’t been good in high-leverage situations. Falcons 27, Cardinals 23.
