Steelers on the rise in latest NFL Week 17 power rankings

The Pittsburgh Steelers are climbing up the ranks in Fox Sports’ power rankings following their victory over the Detroit Lions last Sunday.

Heading into Week 17, the Steelers have risen two spots from No. 14 to No. 12 in Fox Sports’ latest power rankings, jumping ahead of the Houston Texans, who are ranked at No. 13.

“Beating the Lions in Detroit was a big-time win that gave them control of the AFC North,” Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports wrote. “But now they have to hang onto it without suspended wideout DK Metcalf, who’ll miss the rest of the regular season after stupidly taking a swing at a fan.”

Vacchiano hit the nail right on the head, as while Pittsburgh looked impressive against Detroit, they’ll be without Metcalf for their final two games of the regular season.

It remains to be seen how a Metcalf-less Steelers offense will function against the Cleveland Browns this Sunday, but Pittsburgh has the opportunity to clinch a playoff berth before the matchup even takes place — as a Baltimore Ravens loss in Week 17 would send the Steel City brand football straight to the postseason.
