Entering a pivotal Monday Night Football matchup yesterday between the San Francisco 49ers and Indianapolis Colts, Brock Purdy had one of the strongest games of his career.

He led the 49ers throughout the night and finished the first half with three passing touchdowns. He ended the game with five passing touchdowns, 295 passing yards and one interception that was inconsequential late in the game.

Christian McCaffrey also produced as usual, racking up 146 total yards of offense. George Kittle and Juan Jennings were Purdy’s favorite receiving targets, combining for two touchdowns and 186 yards through the air.

All these impressive performances saw the 49ers score 48 points, their highest total of the season.

That said, although the game ended a 21-point victory for San Francisco, the game started out quite close. 44-year-old quarterback Philip Rivers connected with Alec Pierce early and often as the Colts trailed by one score at the half.

After the game, Brock Purdy spoke about going head-to-head with Rivers, a quarterback who was playing his second game in five years.

“When I saw him doing that the first couple of drives, I was like, ‘That’s a Hall of Fame quarterback right there,'” Purdy said, referring to Rivers. “Like going through his reads and making you pay. So, it was how can we go and be our best on offense every drive and go at the beginning of the drive to go score.”

Ultimately, it was an interception by Rivers that was ran back for a touchdown by Dee Winters that sealed the matchup with three minutes remaining.

Now 11-4, the 49ers remain in contention for the NFC West title and the No. 1 seed in the playoffs.
