Indiana football quarterback Fernando Mendoza has earned several honors during his time with the Hoosiers.
Big Ten Champion, Grange-Griffin Big Ten Championship Game Most Valuable Player, Heisman Trophy winner, and Rose Bowl champion are among the titles he’s won up to this point. He’s favored to add another honor this spring: first overall pick in the NFL Draft.
The Las Vegas Raiders clinched the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft following the New York Giants’ 34-17 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday afternoon. Mendoza is favored to be that selection, per FanDuel Sportsbook, which has him at -450 to be the Raiders’ pick. He’s trailed by Oregon quarterback Dante Moore, who the Hoosiers will face in the Peach Bowl, Miami defensive lineman Rueben Bain Jr., and Ohio State linebacker Arvell Reese. The Raiders will likely be looking for a new quarterback of the future with a room of Geno Smith, Kenny Pickett and Aidan O’Connell.
The 2026 NFL Draft will be held from April 23-25 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
