The Washington Commanders defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 24-17 to end the 2025 regular season. The win improved Washington’s record to 5-12. After beginning the season 3-2, the Commanders lost 10 of their final 12. The bright side is that Washington went 3-3 in the NFC East, even though the Eagles sat most of their starters in Week 18.
For fans, this game was about draft positioning. Washington entered the game holding the No. 7 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. However, wins by the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns gave the Commanders a chance to move up to No. 5. With the win, that’s a moot point, and Washington will still pick seventh.
While players and coaches do not care about draft positions, fans do. So, even though the Commanders defeated the hated Eagles to end the season, the win meant very little in the grand scheme of things. Momentum never carries over from one season to the next, and much of Washington’s current roster will look vastly different in 2026.
So what did fans think of the Commanders’ win? Here are some of the top reactions from fans and others from Sunday’s victory over the Eagles.
We really put BTA to the Eagles. 🤣😭
I dont want to hear anything about backups. We been playing backups since week 3.
Great win❗️ Finished the season with a win. #RaiseHail

Josh johnson setting the franchise back another 5 years just to be out of the league next year and reavo boutta gloat on twitter after the game over a meaningless victory talking abt “we don’t care about no draft pick” https://t.co/UuZ36Xw4Jw

He was doing his part to help us keep a top 5 pick. Too bad his coach and teammates were such shitheads

Don’t buy that as a “culture building win” for the Commanders. Barely managed to beat Eagles 3rd stringers after a season where they’ve lost 12 games, had a 9 game losing streak, could end up changing both coordinators and will likely overturn half their roster.

I understand the draft implications, but I rather win than lose. I’m perfectly fine @ 7 overall.

Here’s the thing. Beating he Eagles backups does nothing for this culture or program.
The coaches and players put in never ending hours. They should want to win. Staffers and team folks should be thrilled. But that is different than if it’s best for 2026 and beyond.
It isn’t.…

Here’s the deal – and this is NOT concrete…
Us staying at #7 in the draft will most likely not change a thing on any draft board.
All the teams in front of us have different needs.
QB-QB should go 1-2
Ariz is 3 and also needs a QB
Giants and Titans need WR
Browns need OL— Mark Tyler (Hogs Haven) (@Tiller56) January 5, 2026
What’s the difference between pick 5 and pick 7?
200 points on the Jimmy Johnson draft chart. Or, the equivalent of the 76th pick in the draft.
So that is the approximated value as best we can quantify the damage of today’s win.
A mid third round pick. A third round pick…

My prospective (means absolutely nothing) we have a shot to get the best DB or RB in College. DE/LB is deep in this class. Downs is who I want and he might be available at 7
— Commando G (@ICre8SportsTalk) January 5, 2026
Believe me, I understand what you’re trying to convince me to understand.A higher pick would make sense but I’m more concerned about who’s doing the picking and who’s doing the training.

We own the eagles.

2-draft pick position loss thanks to the win. Glad season is over. Fixing begins, continues, & ends w/defense. Worst I’ve ever witnessed as a fan of the team. Literally did nothing well & almost everything poorly. Key player losses hurt but this D was always going to be terrible.

I mean come on, i know AP is being dealt a bad hand having to draft outside of the top 5 but we got to have faith in his ability to find young talent.
You gotta believe. Lol..

A win is a win, and after all the frustration that’s occurred this season, ending it with a victory feels pretty good

Two meaningless wins instead of the #1 pick. Fantastic.
