The Eagles enter the 2026 postseason with far more questions surrounding them then answers, an unexpected sight given the team’s triumph in the Super Bowl 11 months ago.
Philadelphia picked up its fifth-straight division title during the regular season. But its performances were sloppy, with quarterback Jalen Hurts and tailback Saquon Barkley regressing after eye-catching 2024 displays. A loss to the lowly Commanders — anchored by third-string QB Josh Johnson — dropped the Eagles to the No. 3 seed in postseason play. Head coach Nick Sirianni’s decision to sit his starters and effectively surrender Philadelphia’s chance to move up the NFC standings was widely criticized in the aftermath of the contest, with the Eagles’ path to gold appearing to grow that much harder.

The Eagles still have plenty of talent within their ranks. But the 2025 regular season was far more choppy than its predecessor. A Super Bowl appearance could easily beckon in the distance for the Birds. But it will take some work to get there.
With that, here’s a look at Philadelphia’s matchup in the wild-card round of the playoffs.

The Eagles will rekindle their rivalry with the 49ers in the wild-card round. Despite earning hosting responsibilities after capturing the NFC East title, Philadelphia won one fewer game than San Francisco did in the regular season.
The two teams met in the postseason three years ago, with the Eagles downing the 49ers, 31-7 to punch their ticket to Super Bowl 57.
The game will be contested at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, Jan. 11 at 4:30 p.m. ET. It will be broadcast on Fox, with the network’s A-Team of Kevin Burkhardt (play-by-play), Tom Brady (analyst) and Erin Andrews (sideline reporter) covering the game.
