BATON ROUGE – LSU football addressed another area of need Monday morning.
Kentucky freshman transfer offensive tackle Darrin Strey signed with LSU, the program announced. He has four years of eligibility remaining. New LSU coach Lane Kiffin and his offensive staff have now landed five offensive linemen out of the transfer portal.
Strey only appeared in three games for the Wildcats this past season. The 6-7, 305-pounder was a former four-star recruit in the 2025 recruiting class.
Why Darrin Strey picked LSU football out of transfer portal
Pretty simple why Strey chose to sign with LSU. His former offensive line coach at Kentucky is now LSU’s OL coach in Eric Wolford. The relationship is already built and this is a case of a player wanting to continue to develop under the position coach he wants.
How Darrin Strey fits with LSU football’s roster
After LSU has landed multiple quarterbacks in the last 24 hours, offensive line moved to the top of the priority list for LSU. Several holes in starting roles and depth remains for the Tigers up front and the addition of Strey is big.
Despite in youth and inexperience, Strey can easily carve out a path for himself to see the field at LSU in 2026. The established relationship and experience with Wolford and how he coaches will be a plus for him in competition.

When does transfer portal close?
The NCAA transfer portal window closes Jan. 16. Players cannot enter their name in the portal following that date, but those whose name is already in the transfer portal can still decide and sign with a new school after Jan. 16.
