The Pittsburgh Steelers are going to be making some big changes this offseason, as longtime head coach Mike Tomlin stepped down from his post with the team on Tuesday. Now, for the first time in 19 years, the Steelers are going to have to find a new leader to come in and take charge of their team.
In the wake of this move, all eyes have been on Tomlin, as he appears set to be highly sought after in the media landscape. But for Pittsburgh, it needs to move quickly to find a new head coach. The good news for them, though, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, is that the Steelers’ head coach opening is widely viewed as one of the most attractive jobs in the league.
“I’ve already received three texts from coaches in this cycle who would want the Steelers job, given the rich history and ownership there,” Schultz shared in a post on X. “In the eyes of people reacting in real time, this job is right up there with the Ravens as the cream of the crop.”
Pittsburgh has some ground to make up when it comes to finding its new head coach, but if coaching candidates view it as an attractive landing spot, that could give the team a leg up on some of the other teams that are also searching for a new head coach. For now, the Steelers are still processing Tomlin’s departure, but they could land a top-tier replacement when all is said and done.
