Texas A&M’s 2027 recruiting class will be well represented this weekend, as junior days will take over the college football news cycle amid all the transfer portal chaos that has been the primary talking point since the offseason began, except for Indiana and Miami, who will face off in the National Championship game next Monday.
After landing 18 players in the portal, head coach Mike Elko and his staff will reportedly host a wide net of elite 2027 prospects, including six of the program’s nine commits. According to On3/Rivals recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong, the Aggies will host five-star linebacker Cooper Witten, five-star cornerback John Meredith, and five-star offensive tackle Kennedy Brown, who have all developed close relationships with the staff to this point.
Cooper Witten, who is the son of future Hall of Fame tight end Jason Witten, is currently predicted to land with Oklahoma after Jason accepted a position as the Sooner’s tight ends coach heading into next season. However, Texas A&M still has much of a shot as any program to earn his pledge, as the standout two-way prospect is coming off an impressive junior season, recording 41 receptions for 709 yards and 12 touchdowns, combined with 87 tackles and seven forced fumbles on defense.
The Aggies also lead in Kennedy Brown’s recruitment at the start of the new year, while he will also take visits to Oregon and Florida this month. John Meredith, who received an early prediction to land with the Aggies late last year, is still considering his options and has reportedly built a strong bond with incoming five-star freshman cornerback Brandon Arrington.
Along with Kennedy Brown, four-star offensive lineman Albert Simien, and Ismael Camara, who are also favorites to commit this year, will be back in College Station, while the No. 1-ranked tackle in the 2027 class, Mark Matthews, who is currently predicted to land with Miami, will be back in town for the second time.
Lastly, five-star edge rusher Zyron Forstall, who Elko and his staff have compared to unanimous All-American edge Cashius Howell, will be back this weekend. Wiltfong believes that this visit could “put distance between the Aggies and the rest of the field.”
